About me
Dr. Michael Meli is the HI State DOE ELA Specialist. His professional career includes being a classroom English teacher in both middle and high school; induction & Mentoring lead for KMR Complex Area; Program Manager for Kamehameha Schools, Kealapono Department, where he created the current Kumu Leadership training for principals and school leadership teams; Literacy Specialist for Kawananakoa Middle School and Kaimuki High School.
Throughout his career, Dr. Meli has been a strong advocate for making literacy more accessible to all students, with an emphasis on Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander students. His passion is helping students and teachers experience learning the content knowledge through culture by way of various mediums, including music and moʻolelo.
